Jermaine Bishop
Jermaine's undergraduate research uses molecular and morphological tools to unravel the true biodiversity in two sea slug groups, the genera Lobiger and Placida.  Following up on a prior M.S. student's thesis, Jermaine added molecular data confirming a new undescribed species of Lobiger.  His work with fellow undergraduate Kanique Thomas revealed the existence of three cryptic species of Placida thus far, which he will assist in describing and naming.  As Placida species eat Bryopsis, a source of anticancer drugs, this research has potential use in drug-discovery efforts.

Jermaine's research is supported by an NSF-REU supplemental award specific to his project.  He presented a poster on his work to date at the 2018 student research symposium.
